The name means green-blue. The mission is to keep it that way.
GRØNBLÅ was founded in 2021 by Jayu Yang and Dr. Shu Yuan Yang. The name comes from Danish for "green-blue", and represents a vision to make our blue planet a little greener again.

We're a circular waste infrastructure company. Together with partners, we replace single-use plastic with EN 13432-certified bio-compostable products and operate the loop end-to-end, from the crop by-product that becomes lactic acid, to the in-vessel compost machine at the back of a stadium, to the bag of compost a horticulturist eventually buys to replace peat.
There is no end to what we can achieve in terms of sustainability, but there is a beginning.Jayu Yang, Co-founder & CEO
The traditional business model in many industries was simple: make money by making more. Jayu Yang spent over twenty years in leading positions in the bicycle industry, including as CEO of Haro Bikes, watching the volume of plastic packaging that flows through the value chain every day. When she stepped back from the industry, she chose a different direction: a company committed to closing the loop instead of opening it wider.
Dr. Shu Yuan Yang brings the science. A biochemist trained at Berkeley and Yale with post-doctoral work at Johns Hopkins, she leads research into PLA biodegradation, including the GRØNBLÅ microbe library: cultures trained specifically on PLA, used as active inoculants in our compost machines to break down our products faster than off-the-shelf composts can.
Lasse Norman Leth is one of Denmark's most decorated cyclists, five Olympic medals, multiple World and European Championship titles across track and road. Since joining as our brand ambassador, he's been racing on circuits where our EN 13432-certified compostable cycling water bottle has gone from showcase to race-day equipment.
The partnership is more than endorsement. Lasse's feedback shapes how the bottle handles in real conditions, grip, mouthpiece flow, durability over a hard training block, and his races put the product in front of audiences that care deeply about both performance and sustainability. It's the cleanest answer we have to the question we get most often: does compostable mean compromised?

GRØNBLÅ is run by four people who came to the same problem from different directions.
Jayu Yang (Co-founder & CEO) spent twenty years in leading positions in the bicycle industry, including as CEO of Haro Bikes, watching the volume of plastic packaging flow through global value chains every day. She founded GRØNBLÅ with a different idea: a company built to close the loop instead of extending it.
Dr. Shu Yuan Yang (Co-founder & Director of Research) brings the science. A biochemist trained at Berkeley and Yale with post-doctoral work at Johns Hopkins, she's an Associate Professor at Chang Gung University in Taiwan and leads the research that underpins our compostability claims, including the GRØNBLÅ microbe library: bacterial strains trained specifically on PLA and dosed into our compost machines as active inoculant.
Bjarke Rasmussen (Co-founder & Director, Europe) runs European operations from Valby, Copenhagen. He drives the closed-loop deployments. Parken, festival pilots, municipal environmental approvals, and the off-take partnership with Jysk Muld that closes the loop on the ground.
Jeppe Kofod (Co-founder & Chairman, Europe) joined the company after more than two decades in Danish and European politics, including as Denmark's Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for EU and Trade Policy. He leads European positioning, public affairs, strategic partnerships, and market development at the intersection of circular infrastructure, EU regulation, and commercial solutions for venues, companies, and public authorities. His role is to keep GRØNBLÅ commercially relevant, politically understood, and regulatorily robust at the European level.
Four backgrounds. One mission: replace single-use plastic with a system that closes, end to end, from plant to product to soil.
European operations, deployments, and partnerships are run from our Valby office in Copenhagen.
